Stewardship 2027

What does Saint James’s mean to you?

Dear Member of the St. James’s Community,

What strength there is in the bones of this old building—rows of timber pillars holding up the roof, well-laid stone and brick walls that have never been shaken in a century’s worth of storms. At the same time, oblivious to the architecture, children are playing in the back under this same roof. The church of stone and timber is like the faith itself—beautiful in times of joy, our strength in times of storm, a place where children are always welcome. Yet, to keep standing, the old church needs us also: to keep after the leaks and mend the boiler, to teach and to learn from the children, to carry out its ministries that keep the place truly alive.

And then, across the garden, our still-new parish hall is full of light and possibility. Here we gather for fellowship after church on Sundays and for worship in comfort in summertime, here the choir rehearses and Sunday school happens. Here families in need from the community and beyond are helped by the Helping Hand Food Pantry, and Scout Troop 56 meets on Tuesday evenings. The space seems to invite new activities—yoga classes, meeting for silent meditation, the monthly community meal, board game night. You may have the next great new idea!

Your generosity makes possible all we do together as a parish, as well as our active missions program. Please consider what you can give in the coming year and make a pledge, and please consider whether one of our ministries might be right for your time and talents. You can use the enclosed pledge form for your 2027 pledge or go online to www.stjamescambridge.org and click on “Pledge Here.”

In loving fellowship,

The Stewardship Committee,

Matthew Abbate, Elizabeth Baker, Judy Beers, Jed Pittman, John Irvine
